Jillian Miller, a senior from the Perryville High School girls basketball team in Cecil County, has been named the County Sports Zone/US Army Impact Player of the Month!

Miller was nominated for the award by Mary Dunman, the girls lacrosse coach at Perryville.

"I have no link to Jillian except for coaching at the same school. I love watching her play, she gives everything in her game," Dunman wrote in her nomination. "Her leadership skills I see on and off the court. She is a great person, always respectful and will ask that in others around her."

Miller is a three year captain for the Panthers, being first selected as one as a sophomore. She isn't just a basketball player at Perryville though, also playing for the Panthers' volleyball and outdoor track teams.

She's been a key member of the school's volleyball team, which has won three consecutive MPSSAA 1A regional championships.

"Jillian demonstrates her excellent character on a daily basis. She does this through her positive interactions with classmates, teachers, teammates and coaches," said Matt Borrelli, Perryville's volleyball coach. "Jillian is respectful to those around her, and she does her best in all circumstances. She is self-motivated, and her hard work and determination are a wonderful example to all who are around her."

Miller has also set herself apart in the classroom by pursuing admission and acceptance into Perryville's vocational school for her nursing certificate.

She's also active in her community, working with Maryland State Police at the northeast barrack for the past two years as an explorer. She plans to work full time for the Maryland State Police.

"Jillian has shown great leadership, a high degree of achievement and a willingness to always learn more," said Gina Pucci, Perryville's girls basketball coach. "Jillian is certainly a self directed and independent learner who possesses the skills and intrinsic drive to reach any educational or career goal she sets."

County Sports Zone would like to thank the U.S. Army for sponsoring the Impact Player of the Month award.
