Sherwood Softball Star Named Gatorade Maryland Softball Player of the Year

Nicole Stockinger, shortstop and center fielder for Sherwood High School, has been named the 2015 Gatorade Softball Player of the Year for the state of Maryland.

The 5-foot-8 Stockinger put together a strong senior season for the Warriors, batting .610 with 41 RBI's, 39 runs, 19 walks while striking out only once. Stockinger also set the Maryland state record for home runs in a single season this year, swatting 14. She also has the state record for most career home runs, having hit 39 during her career. None were more important than the walk-off inside the park home run she hit in the 4A State semifinal against Leonardtown, leading the Warriors to a 1-0 victory. The Warriors would go on to win the 4A championship with a 4-0 win over Montgomery County rival Northwest.

Stockinger's selection adds to her perfect high school career. A four year varsity player, Stockinger never lost in her high school career at Sherwood, going 83-0 and winning 4 state championships.

Stockinger has signed a national letter of intent to continue her softball career at Towson University in the fall.
