Kieran Garner

One of the top baseball players in the state of Maryland for the class of 2017 is Kieran Garner of River Hill. Garner made the River Hill varsity as a freshman, and has started his career off with two superb seasons for the Hawks.

As a freshman, Garner finished with a 4-0 record, had 27 strikeouts and an impressive .88 ERA. As a sophomore, Garner came into the season with high expectations to succeed, being selected to the 2015 pre-season all-state team. He continued to be a key player for the Hawks, going 2-3 with a 3.95 ERA and 29 strikeouts. Garner also had a great 2015 season at the plate, batting .403 with seven doubles, one triple and 17 RBI's. River Hill's head coach Wes McCoy rates him as an up and coming player who will finish his high school career strongly.

"Kieran is a big, strong, and tough baseball player," McCoy said. "He loves the game and pitches with passion and intensity. He competes, but plays within himself and within the team, never trying to do it all by himself. Kieran will be a team captain next season as a junior."

Looking ahead, Garner is already getting looks from different colleges. He has received a scholarship offer from Maryland, and has been in contact with Duke, Pittsburgh,IMG_0304-1 Virginia and Virginia Tech.
