Rich Holzer Leaves Meade

Rich Holzer's successful tenure at the helm of the Meade varsity football program has come to an end this week. Holzer, who amassed a 33-13 overall record and two regional titles in his four years at Meade, accepted the position of football head coach at Mount St. Joseph earlier this week.

"I am proud of everything we built here at Meade from the culture of excellence to the strong relationships," Holzer said in a statement. "It is a chapter of my life I will always remember and be proud of. I am confident that the program is left in solid shape and the success will continue."

Holzer began to change the culture around the football program at Meade almost instantaneously when he took over in 2011- the Mustangs had not had a winning season since 2001. In 2012, he coached Meade to a regional title.

Holzer's departure now means a coaching search is on for Meade athletic director Kevin Rutledge. Rutledge is confident the Mustangs will remain a top team in the area despite the coaching change. "Because of the foundation that Coach Holzer has built, we are confident that the next individual who runs our football program will take us to the next level both on and off the field," Rutledge said. "As with every program here at Meade High School, we look for someone who takes a great deal of pride and is a constant professional for our student athletes."

Holzer, who is a product of a Catholic school education, is excited about the prospect of coaching at Mount St. Joseph. "I want to thank the administration at Mount Saint Joseph for selecting me to lead their program. I want to thank the current coaching staff and parents as well for the warm welcome and out pouring of support. My job is unique in that I take over a solid program and am looking to build on Coach Blake Henry's foundation he laid. I have no doubt we can take the program to new heights."
