Middletown's Saylor Poffenbarger Makes Team USA's 16-and-Under Basketball Squad

Saylor Poffenbarger, a rising junior at Middletown High School, was recently selected as a member for the United States' U16 girls' basketball team.

Poffenbarger was one of 33 girls to receive an invitation from the USA Basketball Olympic committee to the tryouts in Colorado in May, and a total of 152 girls showed up for the competition.

As a sophomore, Poffenbarger led the Middletown Knights to their first appearance in the 2A state championship game since 2013. Middletown lost to River Hill, 44-39, despite Poffenbarger's game-high 27 points and 14 rebounds. Both were most among all players in the four state championship games this winter.

She was also the leading scorer in Middletown's 52-32 state semifinal victory over Queen Anne's, when she recorded 22 points and 10 rebounds.

Poffenbarger and the rest of the US U16 girls' team will travel to Chile for the 2019 FIBA Americas U16 Championship later in June. You can find information about the U16 roster and the team's upcoming schedule here: https://www.usab.com/news-events/news/2019/05/wu16-team-named.aspx
