Magruder JV Field Hockey Hoping for Continual Improvement

Magruder's JV field hockey team is hoping to see their players flourish and grow this season. The girls will have many opportunities to do that- the Colonels are only fielding 13 players on their JV team, a small number, meaning that every girl will get a good amount of playing time.

"We teach dynamic field hockey and that comes out on the field, equally in practice and in games," head coach Tabitha Eisig said. "The team possesses a tenacity to play through every ball and create plays with their off ball movement. The ladies fitness and team-first mentality will push them through the smaller than ideal team size."

Despite the small team size, Eisig still has a lot of talented players at her disposal.

"Julia Parsons, Vanessa Graham-Yooll, and Sarai Martinez will lead the attack. Gabrielle Griffith and Jessica Phan will hold a strong midfield. Nathania Torres, Victoria Guardado and Kaci Gossard will lead the defensive line," said Eisig. "Freshman goalkeeper Kayla Zohlman has already shown phenomenal potential at guarding the goal"

The Colonels have switched divisions this season, meaning they will be playing teams they have not before, like Damascus, Rockville and Poolesville. The team is hoping to show improvement every day, not just with their field hockey skills, but with mental toughness and perseverance.

"People can expect to see a team that is in constant motion, making cuts to create space, hustling to every loose ball and filling in positions up and down the field," Eisig said. "Expect to see a team that works together to make positive things happen on and off the field"
