Jeff Vincent, who coached the South River boys soccer team to an Anne Arundel County championship in 2015, is the County Sports Zone/Buffalo Wild Wings Coach of Month for August.

The Seahawks finished 12-2-2 in 2015. The county title was the second for Coach Vincent in his 10 years at the helm of the program, with the first coming in 2009.

Coach Vincent, who teaches physical education and health at South River, is a native of Arnold, Maryland. He attended Broadneck High School, where he played soccer, basketball and baseball. Coach Vincent continued his athletics career at UMBC, where he played baseball.

Coach Vincent also coaches South River's basketball team. When asked what he enjoys about coaching, he was quick to highlight the quality of his student athletes.

"The kids that come through our program I think separate us from other schools. Our teams always have high GPAs- they're hardworking and motivated," Coach Vincent said. "Whether if they choose to play soccer at the next level or not, our players are usually successful in college, which leads to them being successful in life."

His players praised Coach Vincent for being a determined coach but also approachable. It allows for an environment in which his players are able to grow their skills.

"Coach Vincent pushes us every day. He's strict, but in a good way," senior captain Mason Reinhart said. "We know when we have to be serious, but also when we can have fun. All around, he's a great coach."

Coach Vincent said is optimistic the Seahawks will thrive on the soccer field in 2016. The team graduated a fair amount of talent, but also had nine sophomores, many of whom played significant minutes in 2015. With that core returning, the Seahawks should once again be a contender in Anne Arundel County.

"I think we're going to be very competitive and have the capability to accomplish what we did last year," Coach Vincent said. "That's our thought process, if that happens we will see."

For being named County Sports Zone/Buffalo Wild Wings Coach of the Month, Coach Vincent received a gift certificate, sauces and a hat from Buffalo Wild Wings, as well as a County Sports Zone Under Armour t-shirt.
