Mory Gould from Churchill and Madeline Kline from Damascus won the boys and girls MPSSAA Diving State Championships yesterday.

Gould won a tight race against Joseph Canova from Quince Orchard, winning 514.05-512.25. Charles Bloomer from Walter Johnson finished third with a score of 441.70.

Gould and Canova went back and forth as the meet went on, neither able to gain considerable distance from the other.

For Gould, this is his first state championship. At last year's meet he finished fourth with a score of 430.10.

On the girls side, Kline won the competition with much greater ease, finishing with 462.35 points. Melissa Novak from Oakdale finished second with 428.15 points, while Regan Westwood from Wootton rounded out the top three with a score of 415.55.

Like Gould, this is Kline's first state championship. She finished third at last year's MPSSAA state finals meet, and fifth two years ago.
