Bethesda-Chevy Chase Girls Basketball Already has Double Digit Win Total

Bethesda-Chevy Chase girls basketball is a program on the rise. This past Friday B-CC beat Richard Montgomery 64-35, improving the Barons' record to 10-2 with a whole month of the regular season to be played.

The team is well on its way to besting its 13 win mark from last season, and already surpassed its six wins from two seasons ago.

"We've seen improvement in the program by placing emphasis on doing the little things like defense and communication. The team dynamic and cooperation has really given the program more confidence and has increased our success," head coach Ryan Ingalls said. "We were expecting this strong of a start."

The team's defense has been its strength thus far. The Barons have allowed their opponents to score more than 50 points only twice this season, while also having five games in which they've held the other team to 30 points or less.

With the team creating stops at one end of the floor, it allows their balanced offense to work knowing that it doesn't need to score a large amount of points to get the win. The team's leading scorer is Bianca White, who averages 13 points per game. Other players averaging double digit points are Charlotte Lowndes (11 ppg) and Caitlyn Clendenin (10 ppg). Bailee White (9 ppg) and Daisy Leahy (8 ppg) have also been key contributors on the offensive end.

The team has racked up wins against impressive opponents like Severna Park and Quince Orcahrd, but Ingalls cites the team's loss to Whitman as the marquee performance of the season thus far.

"After a tough start and getting behind early we played them even for three quarters," Ingalls said. "I was very impressed with how we played against a very competitive Whitman team."

It's for that reason that Ingalls is excited to see her team square off against Whitman again on Feb. 3. Another team B-CC is excited to play is powerhouse Paint Branch, who reached the MPSSAA 4A state finals last season, and the semifinals the year before that.

Facing those two top teams will prepare the Barons for a surge in the playoffs, Ingalls hopes.

"Our goal is to make it to states," Ingalls said. "We're hoping to be playing our best basketball and make a long playoff run!"
