Week 4 Friday Football Roundup
Annapolis 20 - South River 12
Annapolis bounced back from a Week 3 loss to Broadneck with a 20-12 win over South River. The Panthers are now 3-1. They registered wins over Meade and Southern in the first two weeks of the season.
Trey Gross had an excellent game for Annapolis, recording two interceptions on defense. He also made two catches for 49 yards and a touchdown. Quarterback Nate Vance completed eight passes on ten attempts for 138 yards. He connected with Omard White for a touchdown in the first quarter to give the Panthers the lead. White finished with 86 yards receiving on seven catches.
Montes Davis had the big play of the game, an 81 yard reception. Kevin Flournoy Jr also got time at quarterback for Annapolis, completing four of six passes for 92 yards. He linked up with Gross for a touchdown in the first quarter.
The defense was led by Jalil Ashcraft, who had five tackles including two sacks. Chris Parker (pictured above) had four tackles and a sack. Both Collin Breidenbach and Khalil Ashcraft finished with four tackles.
Annapolis will be on the road in Week 5, traveling to face Arundel, who is also 3-1.
Old Mill 29 - Arundel 13
Old Mill dominated the time of possession in this game, holding onto the ball for around 20 minutes more than Arundel, en route to a 29-13 win. The Patriots are now the only undefeated team in Anne Arundel County.
Running back Pete Boone was the star of the game, rushing for 232 yards on 37 attempts. Boone also recorded all three of Old Mill's touchdowns, scoring on runs of 5, 6, and 47 yards. David Marocco completed 8 of 13 passes for 121 yards. His main target was Cody Bostic who hauled in three catches for 57 yards.
Old Mill's defense put in a great performance, limiting Arundel's potent offense to 230 yards of total offense. Sirus Gray had an interception for the defense.
Old Mill will play Chesapeake-AA next Friday at 6:30.
Towson 34 - Lansdowne 24
The Generals are now 2-2 after picking up a win against Lansdowne in Baltimore County play. QB Logan Cheek threw for 226 yards and 3 touchdowns to lead Towson. All 3 of Cheek's touchdowns were caught by Tyvion Wilson, who caught 141 yards total. Rushing the ball, Rodger Holcombe had a big day for Towson, gaining 98 yards on the ground and scoring a touchdown. Holcombe also contributed 46 yard receiving. Jeff Simet also recorded a rushing touchdown for Towson.
Defensively it was a total team effort for the Generals. Travon Hollis had nine tackles to lead the team while Jeff Simet, Darren Cockerille and Bryan Braxton all had six. Cockerille had two for a loss, while Simet had one. Alex Simet had two sacks.
Next week Towson will try to go above .500 when they host Dundalk on Saturday.
Reginald F. Lewis 21 - New Era Academy 0
Reginald F. Lewis picked up their first win of the season on the strength of their defense. The Baltimore City School's defense stuffed New Era, only allowing them to gain a total of 17 yards on offense and forcing three turnovers.
Obi Holloway got Lewis on the board quickly when he returned the opening kickoff for a touchdown. Holloway also had three sacks on defense. Quarterback Evin Reynolds completed four passes for 113 yards and a touchdown. Greg Delarge only had one catch, but it was a 64 yard touchdown. He also caught an interception. The team's leading rusher was George Phillips, who gained 56 yards on seven carries. Phillips also made an impact on defense, picking up a sack. The offensive line was anchored by James Thomas, who had an excellent game.
The duo of Rashard Brown and Meric Hall-Thompsan was every where for the Falcons defense, registering 13 tackles between the two of them. Antonio Satchel had three tackles for losses, while Timothy Evans had an interception.
Lewis also got a strong game from their kicking unit as Freidy Mbiami converted all three of his extra point attempts.
Lewis will aim to have their first winning streak of 2015 next Friday when they face Southwestern.
