Week 2 Friday Foootball Round Up

Clear Spring 28 - Brunswick 10

Clear Spring (pictured above) picked up their second win of the season to stay undefeated, beating Brunswick 28-10. The Blazers were led by running back Joe McCoy, who had 29 carries for 197 yards and two touchdowns. McCoy will clearly be an important player for Clear Spring in 2015- he has 375 rushing yards in the team's first two games and has been the centerpiece of their offense.

Colton Aaron also had a good game for the Blazers on the ground, rushing for 61 yards and a touchdown on 9 carries. He also caught two passes for 45 yards and a touchdown.

Quarterback Collin Willhite finished the night 8 for 13 with 108 yards. Wide receiver Derec Smith had a good game, making 3 catches for 40 yards. The defense was led by linebacker Ben Weller, who had seven tackles.

Clear Spring beat St. James School in Week 1 41-34. Next Friday they will face a tough test on the road when they travel to Carroll County to play Manchester Valley.

Douglass (Baltimore City) 42 - Carver (Baltimore City) 16

Frederick Douglass of Baltimore City improved to 2-0 today, with a 42-16 victory over Carver Vo-Tech. In Week 1, the Mighty Ducks won a thrilling multiple overtime contest against Woodlawn.

Douglass was led on defense by Malik Holloway, who recorded a monstrous five sacks against Carver. Ke'Andre Cole-Robinson had a strong day as well, rushing for two touchdowns. The Ducks also received a superb all-around performance from Marquis Manigo, who had two interceptions and returned one kickoff for a touchdown. Deljonte Moore also had an interception return for a touchdown.

The next game for Douglass will be against Baltimore City rival Dunbar next Friday. It will be a match-up between two state finalists from 2014- Douglass for 1A and Dunbar for 2A.

Edmondson-Westside 14 - Baltimore City College 0

The Red Storm from Edmondson-Westside picked up their first win of 2015 by shutting out Baltimore City College 14-0.

The team was led on both offense and defense by senior Bilal Omar, who had 108 yards on 13 carries and also recorded 7 solo tackles. Sophomore Kamal Highsmith also had a big game on the ground for the Red Storm, finishing with 97 yards on 9 carries. Highsmith also scored a touchdown on a 52 yard run.

Shemar Barnes, a junior, had a big day for Edmondson-Westside on the defensive side of the ball. He recorded 8 tackles and also scored the team's other touchdown on a 48 yard interception return. Sophomore defensive back Jahlil Brown contributed a couple of big plays to preserve the Red Storm's shutout, coming up with one interception and one fumble recovery.

Edmondson-Westside's next opponent is against Northwestern of Baltimore City next Friday.

Blair 57 - Bethesda-Chevy Chase 21

Blair remained unbeaten in 2015 with a resounding 57-21 victory over Bethesda-Chevy Chase. The Blazers offense put up big numbers for the second week in a row. They won their first game 48-3 over Northwood.

Blair attacked B-CC through the air. Quarterback Desmond Colby had an excellent night, completing 16 of 23 passes for 366 yards and five touchdowns. Colby's main target was wide receiver Chris Green, who had 8 catches for 196 yards and 3 touchdowns. Wide receiver Clifford Carter caught the other two touchdowns, and also contributed 122 yards receiving. The Blazers rushing attack was led by J'den Seals, who ran for 39 yards and a touchdown on 5 attempts.

Blair will see if they can continue their fast start next Friday when they host the defending two time 4A state champions, Northwest.
