Walter Johnson 24 - Northwood 10
The Wildcats won their second game of the year, topping Northwood 24-10. It was a come from behind victory for Walter Johnson, as they trailed 10-0 after the first quarter before shutting out Northwood for the rest of the game.
Walter Johnson got back into the game when quarterback Ben Lake threw a 24 yard touchdown pass to Aziz Diomande midway through the second quarter. Lake threw another touchdown with less than a minute left in the first half, this time a 22 yard strike to Brent Haines. In total, Lake threw for 103 yards, 56 of which went to Diomande.
Walter Johnson also got a strong game from their running back Ruel Michelin, who had 104 yards on 15 carries. He extended the Wildcats' lead in the third quarter when he scored on a four yard touchdown run. Delano Munoz-Whatts also had a good game running the ball for Walter Johnson, finishing with 54 yards on five carries. Munoz-Whatts also was effective in the passing game, making two catches for 22 yards.
Michael Mahdavi also had a good game kicking the ball for Walter Johnson. He made all three of the extra point attempts, and also blasted a 37 yard field goal in the fourth quarter. Mahdavi also had two touchbacks on kickoffs.
Walter Johnson will look to make it two wins in a row next week against Whitman.
Franklin 61 - Towson 0
On a night when Franklin was honoring the 100th career win for head coach Anthony Burgos, the Indians put together a display their coach is sure to be proud of. Franklin shut out Towson, winning 61-0.
Quarterback Jimmy Lahay finished 10 for 14, throwing for 183 yards and four touchdowns. Lahay's favorite target was Kareem Felder, who made five catches for 114 yards and three touchdowns. Felder scored on passes of 51, 17 and 20 yards. Damon Hazelton also had a strong game, catching three passes for 25 yards and a touchdown.
On the ground, it was Sam Botchway got the bulk of the work. He finished with 48 yards on five carries. Botchway scored twice, on runs of 15 and 25 yards.
Damien Taylor had the highlight of the game for the defense, which has not allowed a point since Franklin's Week 4 game against Catonsville. He returned an interception 48 yards for a touchdown.
Franklin is now 6-1. The Indians host Patapsco in Week 8.
Williamsport 30 - Frederick 22
Williamsport won their second straight game, and third total of the year, last night when they beat Frederick 30-22.
The Wildcats got an excellent all around performance from quarterback Matt Malphurs. Malphurs completed 11 of 15 passing attempts for 120 yards and two touchdowns. He also ran for 101 yards. His top three receivers were Marquil Nelson, Kavon Carter, and Connor Thomas. Nelson had three receptions for 48 yards and caught a touchdown. Thomas had two catches for 48 yards.
Carter led the way with five total catches, one of which was a touchdown, for 18 yards. He also had a big impact for special teams, returning a kickoff 84 yards for a touchdown. Williamsport also got a great game from kicker Evan Bowman, who made all three extra point kicks and converted on a 24 yard field goal attempt.
The defense forced the Frederick offense into throwing four interceptions. Bryce Byers led the way with two, while Jerry Moschel and Ryan McLaughlin each had one.
Williamsport faces Washington County rival South Hagerstown next Friday.
Clear Spring 34 - Berkeley Springs (WV) 24
Clear Spring picked up their fourth win of the season last night, beating Berkeley Springs from West Virginia 34-24.
The Blazers ran the ball effectively throughout the night. They had three different players run the ball into the end zone. Joe McCoy had a huge game, rushing 28 times for 332 yards and three touchdowns. Dorian King and quarterback Collin Willhite also scored rushing touchdowns. King finished the day with seven carries for 80 yards, while Willhite had seven carries for seven yards. He also had two completions for 31 yards.
The defense was led by Joey Fisher. Fisher had five solo tackles, two assisted tackles and one sack.
Clear Spring travels to Southern Garrett in Week 8.
