MPSSAA Baseball State Finals

Huntingtown scored all of its runs in the seventh inning to come from behind to beat Chesapeake 4-3 to win the MPSSAA 3A state championship. The Hurricanes struggled for the first six innings, only managing two hits off Chesapeake's Joe Seidler, but managed to get to the right hander in the final frame.
The big rally started when Andrew Pawolski drew a walk, and Danny Goucher got hit by a pitch. Pawolski came in on a sacrifice bunt by Vogtsberger that Seidler threw away heading down to first. Seidler helped his own cause though when he picked off Goucher at third base to get the inning's first out.
Seidler couldn't keep the Hurricanes from scoring a second run though as Jack Morales laced a single to right field to score Vogtsberger and knot the game at 2. Eddie Harris then picked up an RBI single and Devaughn Reid came in to score the fourth and final run.
Up until that inning, Chesapeake, which was looking for it's second state title in three years, had controlled the game. The first runs of the game came in the second inning, which was started on a walk by Roland Siwinski. Siwinski then moved to second on a sacrifice bunt. Ryan Richardson got on with an infield single, which pushed Siwinski to third base. A pitch skipped away from the catcher, Goucher, which brought Siwinski in to score.
The Chesapeake rally wasn't done there, as Pat Goralski hammered a line drive to left center for a single. That brought Richardson home, giving Chesapeake a 2-0 advantage heading to the third inning.
Huntingtown made a pitching change the next inning, pulling southpaw Tyler Livingston for Brandyn Vogtsberger, who only had five innings left to pitch due to the amount of innings he threw earlier in the tournament. The move proved to be effective, as Vogtsberger held Chesapeake scoreless over the next five innings.
The Cougars did threaten in the bottom of the seventh inning putting runners on the corners with no outs. Huntingtown turned a big double play though, and Chesapeake could only manage one run.
Huntingtown finishes the season 20-4, while Chesapeake ended with a 21-4 mark. This is the first state championship for baseball in Calvert County history.

Scott Logue threw seven innings while only giving up one run on seven hits to lead La Plata to a 4-1 win over Williamsport in the MPSSAA 2A state final.
The Warriors scored in the bottom of the first to take the early lead against Williamsport pitcher Matt Harsh. Brett Pilkerton led off with a walk and worked his way around to second base. Logue then had an infield single to third base, which had a dropped throw at first base. Pilkerton kept on running and crossed the plate to make it 1-0 in favor of La Plata.
La Plata padded its lead with a three run third inning which saw Jake Hanks have a big two RBI single. Tyler Stockwell also ripped an RBI single to give La Plata a 4-0 lead.
After getting two runners on in the first inning without scoring, Williamsport loaded the bases with one out in the fourth inning after Ryan Greene, Justin Taylor and Bryce Byers all got singles. Robert Carr then knocked a run in on a fielders choice to cut the Warriors' lead to 4-1, before Logue induced a ground out to end the inning.
With its back pushed up against the wall, Williamsport started the top of the seventh with back to back walks. Logue then got fly outs to both right and center field for the first two outs of the inning. After Carr forced another walk to load the bases, Logue got Caden Keplinger to ground out to finish the game.
Logue finished the game with three strike outs, while spreading six hits throughout the game.
The Warriors finish the season 21-2, while Williamsport ended its season with an 18-5 mark.

Andrew Wanger threw a complete game shutout giving up just three hits, while both Tyler Babyak and Connor Kean hit solo home runs in a big three run fifth inning as Brunswick won its second straight MPSSAA 1A baseball state title 4-0 over Patterson Mill.
Brunswick scored first in the top of the second inning when Conor McCormick hit a sacrifice fly to left field to score pinch runner Zach Heffner, making it 1-0. In that inning, Babyak had a big double to move Heffner to third base.
The Railroaders struck again in the fifth inning when both Babyak and Kean hit home runs. Tyler Ebberts added an RBI single in that frame to give Brunswick three big insurance runs.
Patterson Mill threatened in the fifth inning. Nick Cress started the two out rally with a double down the left field line. Steve Spencer got hit by Wanger, and Thomas Kragh followed that up with an infield single. The Huskies called on Cooper Mattheu to pinch hit, but Wanger got him to fly out to end the threat.
That was the only great scoring chance Patterson Mill had as Wanger, who was the winning pitcher for Brunswick in its 2015 state title triumph, kept the Huskies in check the rest of the game. He finished the game with six strikeouts.
With the win, Brunswick finishes its season 18-7, while Patterson Mill ends its season 21-4.
