Oakdale Junior Represents US at Barrientos Memorial Track Meet in Cuba
Oakdale junior Kyle Lund enjoyed a breakout track and field season in which he captured state titles in the 1600 and 800 meter runs. Lund was also chosen to represent the US on the NSAF team at the annual Barrientos Memorial meet in Havana, Cuba.
The meet has been held every year since 1946, in memory of Cuban sprinter Jose Barrientos. Lund was one of a handful of American high school athletes to compete at Barrientos Memorial on the weekend of June 7-9.
Lund finished second in the preliminary round of the 800 meter run with a time of 1:54.85. He then ran 1:53.71 in the finals to finish fifth, and also ran a leg on the 4x400 meter relay team that placed third in 3:14.22.
Lund finished his track season by competing with Oakdale at New Balance Outdoor Nationals in the 4x800 meter and 1600 meter sprint medley relays.
