John Kampes Recovery Fund
John Kampes, who coaches baseball at Rising Sun High School in Cecil County, was injured in a car accident on May 7.
Kampes was rear ended while attempting to make a left turn and pushed into oncoming traffic, which caused him to be ejected from his vehicle. He suffered injuries to his neck, back, clavicle, shoulder, ribs, arm, legs and knees.
Kampes was flown to the Christiana Care Trauma Center in Newark DE, where he was placed in a medically induced coma. He is still being kept on sedation. Kampes has progressed with his recovery, responding to verbal commands when the sedation is reduced.
Kampes is a community leader within Cecil County. In addition to coaching at Rising Sun, he also coaches for the 16U and 13U Maryland Legends Travel Baseball Teams. He is also the associated executive director for the Cecil County YMCA.
Kampes is expected to miss work for months due to his lengthy recovery process. A Go Fund Me account has been set up to raise money for Kampes and his family.
