Week 6 Football Roundup Part 2
Wootton 28 - Rockville 18
Wootton picked up their second win of 2015 in impressive fashion, topping Rockville 28-18. It was the Patriots' first win since Week 1.
Wootton's offense was centered around Brent London, who ran for 214 yards and two touchdowns on 19 carries. Dean Spitz also had a strong game, rushing for 25 yards and a touchdown on eight carries.
Malcolm Amobi led all receivers with 83 yards on three catches. Kingsley Ofori had two atches for 40 yards, including a 25 yard touchdown. Quarterback Grant Saylor completed six passes for 122 yards and threw one touchdown.
On defense, Patrick Bernardo and Andreas Raphael led the way with eight tackles. Raphael was a menace in Rockville's backfield, registering four tackles for losses. AJ Gorsky also had a strong game, picking up seven tackles.
Wootton faces a tough test next week when they travel to Linganore, who is undefeated this season.
Aberdeen 42 - Fallston 28
Aberdeen made it three wins in a row last night, beating Fallston 42-28. After a frustrating 1-2 start, the Eagles are now 4-2 and face a big test next week when they go on the road to play Bel Air.
Isaiah Everett led the way for Aberdeen. The senior running back had a big day, carrying the ball 26 times for 214 yards and two touchdowns. Elijah Johnson ran for 54 yards and had a touchdown. Johnson also made an impact on defense, recording 10 tackles.
Quarterback Stephen Blackwell went 12 for 19 passing the ball for 186 yards and two touchdowns. One of Blackwell's touchdowns was hauled in by Karl Lyons, who made in an impact in all three facets of the game for Aberdeen. Lyons caught 65 yards passing, rushed for 85 yards and had 123 yards returning the ball. He also had an interception on defense.
In addition to Johnson, Ian Telpha and Kenny Hueitt had 10 tackles for Aberdeen's defense.
Aberdeen's Week 7 showdown with Bel Air is scheduled for this Thursday at 7:00.
Damascus 56 - Blake 20
Damascus remained undefeated in 2015, beating Blake 56-20. Damascus ran for 355 yards and scored six rushing touchdowns.
The Hornets were led by Jake Funk's four touchdown performance. Funk scored on runs of 67, 14 and 10. He also scored on a 77 yard blocked punt, which opened up the scoring in the game. Funk scored another touchdown in the first quarter, which gave Damascus a 14-0 lead. In total, Funk had 194 yards on 13 carries. He also caught one pass for 20 yards.
Marcus Vinson scored two of the other rushing touchdowns, cashing in on runs of 13 and 4. He finished with 68 yards gained on five carries, which averages to 14.6 yards per carry. Will Armstrong had the other rushing touchdown. He found the end zone on an 11 yard run and finished with 17 yards total on the ground.
Damascus will put their undfeated record on the line when they travel to Whitman in Week 7.
Poolesville 24 - Bethesda-Chevy Chase 21
Poolesville's Alex Hsu kicked a 31 yard field goal in the fourth quarter to give the Falcons a win on their homecoming night over B-CC. After winning this back and forth game, the Falcons are now 3-3 this season.
A considerable chunk of Poolesville's offense went through Jonathan Hetrick, who ran for 212 yards on 27 carries. Trey Willis got the Falcons on the board though, when he scored on a 21 yard touchdown run to cap off Poolesville's opening drive of the game.
Sophomore defensive end made it 14-0 in the second quarter when he picked off a pass and returned it 16 yards for a touchdown. The Barons would not go away though, and scored 14 quick points in the second quarter. Poolesville retook the lead right before halftime when wide receiver Alex Dahlen caught a 25-yard touchdown pass from Daniel Cho.
B-CC scored late in the third quarter to even the score at 21-21. After Hsu's kick, the Poolesville defense, which was led in tackles by linebacker Keegan Hemingway, clamped down on B-CC, not allowing them to score again. By the end of the game, the Falcons defense had five sacks, with the biggest one coming late in the fourth quarter courtesy of defensive lineman Sam Pavlick.
Poolesville will host Richard Montgomery in Week 7. The Rockets, who are 5-1, lost their first game of the season against Northwest this past Friday.
