MPSSAA Golf Semifinals: Five Montgomery County Schools Place in Top 6 in Day 1
Montgomery County had a strong showing as a county on the first day of the MPSSAA golf semifinals, claiming five of the six top spots. Churchill, Walter Johnson, Wootton, Whitman and Sherwood all still have a chance to advance. Linganore from Frederick County also placed in the top six, finishing fourth.
Churchill had the best score of the day, finishing with 289 points which was 13 strokes ahead of second place Walter Johnson. Adam Gray and Oliver Whatley both shot 70's, while Lena Capoccia scored a 74 and Dylan Rotter shot a 75.
Walter Johnson's Noah Moss had the best individual score, shooting a 68 to lead the Wildcats to second place. Taso Scilaris and Jordan Bobb aided Walter Johnson's cause by shooting a 75 and a 77, while Spencer Brody rounded out their team of four with an 82. As a team, Walter Johnson shot a 302.
Wootton's third place finish was led by Delaney Shah's 70, which was the best individual score for the girls. Jordan Weitz also had a strong day, shooting a 72. Joey Voyta scored an 82 and Noah Siman finished with an 85. As a team, Wootton shot a 309.
Linganore had the best team score for a non Montgomery County School, scoring a 310. Drew Twillman shot a 73 to lead the Lancers, while Brent Wilkerson shot a 75.
Whitman and Sherwood rounded out the top six, with Whitman shooting a 311 and Sherwood finishing with 315. Graham Hutchinson's 70 being the best for Whitman, and Brad Riley's 76 being the best score for Sherwood.
