Perry Hall Football Expects to be One of Baltimore County's Best
Perry Hall's football team is expecting to maintain their high standards of excellence in the 2015 season. Perry Hall finished the regular season 7-3, qualifying for the 4A MPSSAA playoffs, where the Gators were knocked out in the first round by Howard. The team is confident they will come back even stronger in 2015.
"We will be very deep and talented in the skill positions," said head coach Keith Robinson. "We have a stable of talented receivers and running backs to go along with who we believe to be the top returning quarterback in Baltimore County."
That quarterback is senior Reece Wiseman, a first team all division selection in 2014. Wiseman will have a strong duo of receivers to throw to in Jordan Garrett and James Rider. The Gators offense will also have Ashawntie Brown as the feature back, who ran for 500 yards last year in a split carries role in 2014. Since moving to a no-huddle offense five years ago, the Perry Hall offense has been prolific, averaging 35 points per game.
On defense, the Gators expect to have their secondary be their strength. Two defensive backs, Archbishop Spalding transfer Brennon Dingle, and Garrett, who will be playing on both sides of the ball, are expected to be superb. Junior Anthony Jordan is a talented free safety who started as a sophomore last season and linebacker Juwan Manigo is a very explosive player who will be a leader this season.
It is in the trenches that the Gators will need to catch up, as both the offensive and defensive line lack experience, besides senior Malik Diggs. Those two units will get experience quickly though, as Perry Hall opens their season with two difficult games- opening weekend they travel to Aberdeen, and in Week 2 they host the defending 3A state champs, Franklin.
"We want to win the Baltimore County Championship this year. Our goal is always to make it to the playoffs to have a shot at a regional and state title," said Robinson. "Expect the Gators to continue to field a high scoring, explosive offense. Our success will depend greatly upon the development and progression of our offensive and defensive lines. We expect to be very competitive!"
