Patterson Mill Students Receive Leadership Lessons from US Navy and Baltimore Ravens
On June 1, Patterson Mill High School in Harford County welcomed members of the US Navy, as well as employees of the Baltimore Ravens, to speak to student athletes at the second annual Captain's Clinic about various leadership techniques. 123 student athletes completed online courses organized by the National Federation of High Schools, and also took part in an evening seminar at Patterson Mill.
At the seminar, students were treated to a talk from Harry Swayne, the Baltimore Ravens Director of Player Development. The group also heard from LT Justin Mears and LT Douglas McMahon, who are from the US Navy LEAD Division of Department of Leadership, Ethics and Law. The talks were rounded out by a presentation from Joe Ryan from the Harford County Office of Drug Control Policy.
The group of student athletes also got to interact with a panel of former Patterson Mill students who have continued their athletic careers in college. The panel was comprised of nine former Huskies, including Matt Golczewski (Towson, baseball), Sam Herman (High Point, girls lacrosse) and Trey Hall (Edinboro, football).
For completing the NFHS online courses and taking part in the seminar, the group of 123 student athletes are now all eligible to be team captains on Patterson Mill athletic teams during the 2016-17 academic school year.
