New Look Sparrows Point Football Excited for 2015 Season
After a disappointing 2014 campaign, the Sparrows Point football team is looking to improve in 2015. Last year the team struggled to make an impact, finishing with a record of 3-7.
"I believe all of our games will be big games this season after the realignment. If we have any chance of making a playoff run, we must treat each game as important," said first year head coach Brian Bandurchin. "The players are really looking forward to opening the season at home against New Town."
Bandurchin is hoping to revive a program that has had a lot of recent success, despite last year's difficulties. In 2013, the Pointers qualified for the MPSSAA playoffs, and picked up a win in the postseason, downing Forestville 20-16. Bandurchin will be reliant on a couple of key returning players to help the Pointers rebound from last year, including Matt Wallace (QB), Nick Borsa (FB/LB), Val Travaligne (OL/DL), and Nick Burkhardt (OL/DL).
"Most importantly we want to remain injury free. Last year some key players were sidelined for most of the season due to injuries," said Bandurchin. "We also want to be competitive in every game and improve the team's record from last year."
Looking forward, Bandurchin believes playing as a team will be the key to Sparrows Point's 2015 season.
"This year's focus is to hustle every play and have 11 players working as one unit on the field at all times," said Bandurchin. "Fans can expect to see Sparrows Point as a disciplined football team that doesn't take any plays off. We will give everything we have from the opening kickoff to the final horn. We have new coaches, new players and a new look. Our motto is Hustle, Hit and Never Quit."
