Northern Senior Marcus Lee Sang Selected by Phillies in 11th Round of MLB Draft
Northern-Calvert senior Marcus Lee Sang was taken in the 11th round of this year's MLB Draft by the Philadelphia Phillies.
Lee Sang received the news Wednesday afternoon, just before Northern's graduation ceremony. According to Southern MD News, Lee Sang will forego his college career at St. John's (NY) and enter the Phillies organization.
He helped lead the Northern boys to a 3A South regional title this spring; they lost in the 3A state semifinals to C. Milton Wright.
Lee Sang is the only player to have been drafted out of a Maryland public high school so far in this year's MLB Draft. Jose Torres of Calvert Hall High School was selected by the Brewers in the 24th round, while University of Maryland's Hunter Parsons (a Parkside High School graduate) was selected by the Mets in the 19th round.
