Casey O'Grady of Dulaney Field Hockey Named U.S. Army Impact Player of the Month

Casey O'Grady, who is a member of the field hockey team at Dulaney High School in Baltimore County, has been named this month's County Sports Zone/US Army Impact Player of the Month!

O'Grady, a junior, was nominated for the award by Dulaney's field hockey coach, Kellie Fialcowitz. In her nomination, Fialcowitz referred to O'Grady as a coach's dream.

"Casey is a remarkably lovable and kind person. Her work ethic is beyond compare," Fialcowitz wrote. "In the summer morning workouts, Casey is a leader in every sense of the word. She leads by example, by positive encouragement and overall dedication to herself and her teammates. She will not stop working until the last person is done."

In addition to being a member of the field hockey team, O'Grady also plays for Dulaney's girls lacrosse team, and was a big contributor to the team's state championship triumph this past spring. She had the best shot percentage of all attackers with 56%, and recorded a second half hat trick in the state final against Leonardtown. O'Grady also registered the winning goal in that game.

Along with her obvious talent, Kristi Korrow, Dulaney's girls lacrosse head coach, also highlighted her work ethic and ability to build team chemistry.

"She revels in the opportunity to improve her game and take it to the next level, as well as make her teammates look good. She can handle pressure with poise and thrives in an environment where she can push and be pushed by her teammates," Korrow wrote. "She listens to coaches and takes advice to heart. She is the type of player who helps bring a team together, and one that a coach can count on."

O'Grady is also a player who doesn't shy away from speaking up when her team is in a difficult situation.

Last year after Dulaney's field hockey season ended in the state semifinals against Wootton, the team gathered together to speak about what the season had meant to them. O'Grady got emotional addressing the team's seniors, saying that she was most upset about losing because it was their last chance to win a state title, and that they deserved it.

"It wasn't about her and it never is," Fialcowitz wrote. "It's about being a team player and being the best teammate you can be."
