Brunswick Claims 1A Baseball Crown
Andrew Wanger struck out 13 McDonough Rams batters in a complete game shutout to lead the Brunswick Railroaders to the Class 1A Baseball State Championship. The Railroaders won by a score of 4-0. Wanger allowed just four hits and did not walk a single batter throughout all seven innings. In four innings, he did not allow a Rams batter to reach base.
Brunswick first took the lead in the top of the second when Justin Walls got on base with a single. Walls came home on Tyler Ebberts' long double which got over the left fielder's head.
The score remained 1-0 until the seventh inning when Ebberts brought home Walls for a second time, this time with a single and after Walls had drawn a walk. Wanger then came through for the Railroaders at the plate, delivering a 2-RBI double in the top of the seventh to stretch a 2-0 lead to 4-0.
Wanger retired the Rams in order in the seventh to win Brunswick the 1A State Championship.
