Dundalk Wrestling Wins Own Annual Dual Tournament
Dundalk wrestling (pictured above) won their own annual dual tournament this past weekend. The tournament, which was in its eighth iteration, featured 10 schools, nine of which were from CSZ's year-round jurisdictions. In total, six different CSZ year-round jurisdictions (Baltimore City, Baltimore County, Carroll County, Harford County, Prince George's County and Washington County) were represented at the tournament.
The Owls finished the tournament 9-0, competing against each school once. The team won some very close decisions, beating Smithsburg 39-38 and Severn 40-38.
Dundalk won on the strength of a strong, all-around team performance. The Owls placed seven wrestlers in the top three of their weight classes. Robert Doetsch (152) and Yeabisra Tilahun (285) led the way by going 9-0 and finishing top of their weight classes. Hamza Laghfiri (120, 8-1), Shadi Qader (126, 7-2) and Jeffrey Belt III (160, 8-1) all placed second in their weight classes for the Owls. Demond Bradford (106, 7-2) and David Romero (182, 6-3) rounded out Dundalk's performance with third place performances.
North Carroll from Carroll County finished second with an 8-1 mark. Their only loss was a 45-34 decision against Dundalk. The Panthers were led by a trio of wrestlers who won their weight class- Nik Gordon (132, 9-0), Caleb Loudermilk (138, 9-0) and Connor Waskiewicz (145, 7-1). CJ Styk (113, 8-1) got second in his weight class for North Carroll.
Smithsburg had two wrestlers win their weight class- Shane Hovermale (106, 9-0) and Bryce Scott (220, 9-0). Other weight class winners included Woodlawn's Rondell Stewart (113, 9-0), Parkville's Marcus Woods (120, 9-0) and Patterson Mill's Arlen Agiliga (195, 9-0).
