Alyssa Parker, Glenelg Graduate, Named New United States Field Hockey Team Member
Alyssa Parker, a graduate of Glenelg High School in Howard County, has been announced as one of six new players to join the senior U.S. Women's National Team program for field hockey. Parker, who after graduating from Glenelg played for four years at the University of Maryland, will head to Lancaster, PA in September to train full-time with the senior USWNT at their headquarters at Home of Hockey at Spooky Neck Sports.
Parker is a midfielder/forward. She started all 22 of the Terps' games this past year, scoring two goals and recording two assists.
Parker has represented the U.S. at the youth level with the U-19 and the U-21 teams. She won a gold medal with the U-19 in 2011 at the AAU Junior Olympics. Her other accolades include being named to the NFHCA All-Region second team in both 2014 and 2015, as well as receiving the Big 10 Sportsmanship Award in 2014. She also made the All-Big 10 Academic list in 2014 and 2015.
Parker is not the only player in the group of six with ties to the University of Maryland. She will be joined in September by her Terps teammate Anna Dessoye, who is a native of Mountain Top, PA.
Taylor West, from Princess Anne, MD, is also among the six to join the team. West is a graduate of Pocomoke High School in Worcester County, and played college field hockey at James Madison University in Virginia.
