Derek Gold, Josephine Jung Win Howard County Championship Golf Tournament
Derek Gold of River Hill won the boys Howard County Championship Golf Tournament with a score of 27. It is the first high school varsity postseason championship for Gold. The junior was able to beat out Bennett Buch and David Polefrone, both from Marriotts Ridge, who both kept it close by shooting 25. Nick Mejia of Marriotts Ridge and Nick Osterman of Atholton rounded out the top 5 with scores of 24.
Josephine Jung of Mount Hebron barely edged out Howard's Jacqueline Cherry to win the girls title. Jung finished with a 24, while Cherry shot a 23. For Jung, who is a senior, it is her second straight Howard County championship. Katelyn McIlvain of Marriotts Ridge and Isabel Trojillo from Centennial were the closest to the top 2, while Eric Caporaletti from Reservoir rounded out the top 5 with a score of 17.
