Aldrin Garriques of Patapsco Football Named US Army Impact Player of the Month
Aldrin Garriques, who is a member of the Patapsco varsity football team in Baltimore County, has been named the County Sports Zone/US Army Impact Player of the Month!
Garriques was a big time performer for the Patriots on both sides of the ball in 2015. He was first on the team in overall touchdowns, and second in rushing yards. On defense, he led Patapsco in tackles.
Rob Flynn, who is entering his first year of being Patapsco's head coach after serving as an assistant, views Garriques as an essential cog for the Patriots to be successful in 2016.
"Aldrin is a player a coach dreams for," Flynn said. "If a message is passed down from the coaching staff, Aldrin can gather the entire football team with respect and pass on that message."
Along with his on field talent, Garriques provides invaluable leadership for his team as well. A captain since his sophomore season, Garriques has been compared to former Baltimore Ravens linebacker Ray Lewis by his coaches for his passionate speeches before games.
Garriques also sets the standard for the team in the weight room, going from being 160 pounds as a freshman, to 205 currently. He has a max bench of 325, a max squat of 415 and a max power clean of 275.
Garriques also excels in the classroom, sporting a 3.8 GPA through his first three years of high school, which puts him in the top 10 percent of his graduating class. He's in the process of completing his magnet in carpentry at Sollers Point Technical High School, which will give him a plethora of options to consider once he graduates.
Currently, Garriques plans to attend a four year university where he will major in business management. He hopes to one day run and operate his very own carpentry business.
"Regardless of the path Aldrin chooses after graduation, he will do what's best for himself, his family and be successful at it," Flynn said. "Aldrin is the perfect recipient for the US Army Impact Player of the Month Award, and it's a privilege to be his coach."
County Sports Zone would like to thank the US Army for sponsoring the Impact Player Award!
