Linganore Girls Soccer Expects to Do Damage in 2015

Linganore's girls soccer team finished one game short of having the perfect season in 2014. The Lancers finished 17-1, with their one loss coming in the MPSSAA 3A state championship against River Hill. They outscored their opponents 70-5. The team lost five players to graduation, but are returning eight seniors, as well as eight starters.

"We are older and more experienced now, having 'been there before,'" Lancers head coach Howard Putterman said.

Linganore's explosive offense is expected to be the team's strength in 2015. They are returning a trio of Division I committed players who are expected to be among the top players in the state in Montanna Hill (Coastal Carolina), Elizabeth Coletti (Towson University) and Hannah Hoefs (University of Maryland). That trio combined for 40 goals and 23 assists last season.

The talent on this year's team has the Lancers dreaming big.

"Goals for this year include making it to the first ever CMC championship game, reaching our third straight regional final and getting another chance at a state championship," said Putterman. "Very lofty goals. However, the girls have gotten a taste of success and know what they are made of."

The big games on Linganore's schedule in 2015 are against Westminster, Urbana and Middletown. While the team has a lot of aspirations for success on the field, they have goals for off it as well.

"We intend to control games with a flurry of offense due to our combination of speed, technical ability and experience," said Putterman. "More importantly, our team is committed to winning or losing with class. We like to consider ourselves a program that is committed to excellence not only on the field, but also off the field."
