Oakland Mills to Host Larry Aaron Benefit Game on Feb. 2

Oakland Mills will be hosting a benefit game for Larry Aaron, a former three sport athlete for the Scorpions who played football at Marshall University, on Feb. 2 when the boys basketball team plays against Hammond.

On New Year's Eve, Aaron was struck by a stray bullet while attending a party in Severn. He is currently paralyzed below his waist.

Aaron just completed his red shirt freshman season for Marshall, finishing his campaign with 13 tackles. He also played in Marshall's 31-28 victory against Colorado State in the New Mexico Bowl.

At Oakland Mills, Aaron played football, basketball and baseball. He was a member of the Scorpions' basketball team which won a state title in 2015.

All concession and t-shirt sales that happen at the game will go to help the Aaron family. The shirts, which say 93 Strong on them in reference to Aaron's number on the Marshall football team, have already been purchased by eight different Howard County basketball teams. Those teams plan to wear the shirts during warm-ups on Feb. 2, including the Scorpions' opponent that night, Hammond.

Oakland Mills' athletic director Troy Stevenson, as well as the Scorpions boys basketball head coach Jon Browne both made an appearance on County Sports Zone's weekly statewide radio show called High School Sportsline earlier this week to promote the event and talk about how special of an individual Aaron is.
