Clarksburg Field Hockey Looking for More Success in 2015
Clarksburg field hockey finished the 2014 season on a high note. The Coyotes reached the sectional final in the west region of the 4A MPSSAA state tournament. It was the deepest the team had gone in the tournament in school history. The team finished with an overall record of 11-5.
This season, the Coyotes are hoping to build off the 2014 team's success. While they lost All-County selection Ashley Wong to graduation, Clarksburg will still have a good amount of experience in their team, as well as youth. Clarksburg has nine returners who will be joined by a couple players who were on JV last year. The team has also added a couple players, Anna Bertrand and Charlotte Pond, who made the team as freshmen.
"We have pretty good speed, chemistry and multiple-position players which helps with filling the void left from the seniors who graduated," head coach Sissy Natoli said.
Clarksburg will be looking to their four captains to lead the team. Those players are Gabby Haddad (midfielder), Amanda Ward (forward), Maddie August (defensive back) and Abby Smith (defensive back). Junior goalkeeper Allie Janowiack is also expected to be a big performer for the Coyotes.
The Coyotes are hoping to challenge for their division title and be a more consistent team in 2015, as well as finish with a better record than in 2014. Some big games on their schedule include Northwest, Whitman, Walter Johnson, and Quince Orchard, the team that knocked Clarksburg out of the playoffs last season.
"We are going to be fast and exciting, with an uptempo style of game," Natoli said. "We expect to win 50-50 balls and be more powerful in the circle. We also expect to take more shots, and finish more consistently."
