Week 5 Football Roundup Monday Night Football Edition
The weather-related postponements meant less football this past weekend. This gave a few teams around Maryland to get to play the rare high school Monday Night football game today! Here are a couple of games of note around Maryland.
Dulaney 20 - Parkville 14
Dulaney won their second straight game today, topping Parkville 20-14. The Lions are now 2-3 in 2015.
Dulaney's defense was the story of the game. The unit recorded five sacks for a loss of 31 yards and forced two fumbles. Jay Nash led the way with eight total tackles and a forced fumble. Vernon McBride had seven tackles, 1.5 sacks and a forced the other fumble. Casey Dreschler had three tackles, including 1.5 sacks for a loss of 19 yards. Juwann Martin, Javon Smith, Andrew Bank, Malik Debow and Javon Childs all had at least four tackles.
On offense, the Lions were led by quarterback Marco Vogle's three touchdown performance. Vogle completed eight passes for 146 yards. Vogle also had success running the ball, gaining 24 yards on five carries. He spread the ball around effectively, completing passes to six different receivers. His longest completion was a 74 yard touchdown to Nico Yarbourgh. Yarbourgh caught another touchdown pass which was a gain of 16 yards, giving him 90 receiving yards which led all receivers. Josh Nicholl also caught a 14 yard touchdown pass from Vogle.
Dulaney ran for 101 yards as a team. Naraye Wells-Dotson took the bulk of the carries, carrying the ball seven times for 43 yards, which is an average of 6.14 yards per rushing attempt. Yarbourgh also helped in the rushing attack, gaining 25 yards on six attempts.
Dulaney will try to win their third game in a row new week when they host Woodlawn. That kickoff is scheduled for Saturday at 2 PM.
Edmondson-Westside 18 - Baltimore Polytechnic 6
The Red Storm continued to look like one of the top teams in Baltimore City today against Poly, winning 18-6. After losing Week 1 to Archbishop Curley, Edmondson has won four straight games.
Edmondson's offense was focused around their top two rushers, Cameran Edwards and Kamal Highsmith. Highsmith recorded 67 yards rushing and a touchdown on 14 carries. Edwards had 12 carries for 126 yards. He also had a big play for the special teams, returning a kickoff 85 yards for a touchdown.
The Red Storm defense came up with two big turnovers in the fourth quarter to help seal the win. Edmondson's defense has been stifling over this four game stretch, only allowing 14 points total.
Edmondson will try to make it five wins in a row this Friday when they host NAF. Kickoff is scheduled for 3:45 in the afternoon.
Milford Mill Academy 34 - Patapsco 14
The Millers picked up a road victory yesterday in Baltimore County play, beating Patapsco 34-14.
Milford Mill was led by quarterback Mike Bradley, who had a strong day throwing the ball. Bradley finished with three touchdown passes. He threw two of them to wide receiver Dana Jackson, and the other to Jamal Taylor. Tyree Brown also contributed a rushing touchdown.
On defense, Jonathan Johnson had the big play for Milford Mill. He picked off a pass when Patapsco were in the red zone and ran it back 99 yards for a touchdown. Jawan Rabb also had an interception, while Darrien Laboo had a big sack.
Milford Mill is now 2-3, with their other win coming in Week 2 against Parkville. The Millers will be looking to avenge playoff losses from 2013 and 2014 this Saturday when they face Franklin, who is also the defending 3A state champions.
