Nicholas Gumbs Named U.S. Army/County Sports Zone Impact Player of the Month
Nick Gumbs, a senior forward from the Damascus varsity boys soccer team in Montgomery County, has been named US Army/County Sports Zone Impact Player of the Month! A 1st team all-state selection, Gumbs led Damascus to a 9-3 overall record this past Fall, as well as to the 3A/4A West Division championship.
Gumbs, who is the third recipient of this award, was nominated by Andre Wise, head coach of the Damascus boys varsity soccer team.
"Nick is an outstanding teammate and captain, leading by example," Wise said of Gumbs. "Nick helped, with the other captains, lead the Hornets with the understanding that for them to be successful they had to do ordinary things with extraordinary consistency, commitment and focus."
Gumbs has also taken part in indoor track and boys' volleyball during his time at Damascus. In the classroom, Gumbs carries a 3.87 GPA and a 4.17 weighted GPA, making him a member of the National Honor Society.
He participates in Campus Life, which is a school club hosted by the Youths for Christ. Gumbs also volunteers during his free time at his church, where he helps with the institution's theater program.
Looking ahead to next year, Gumbs will either attend UMBC or Amherst College in Massachusetts. He plans to study computer science, and hopes to play soccer as well.
County Sports Zone would like to thank the U.S. Army for sponsoring the Impact Player of the Month award.
