Five MPSSAA Football Games to Watch: Week 8
Suitland (7-0) at CH Flowers (7-0)
Two unbeaten groups from Prince George's County and the MPSSAA 4A South region square off in this Week 8 tilt.
Suitland has been playing some of its best ball in recent weeks, topping a talented Douglass bunch on the road in Week 6 21-8 before rolling past Largo 54-7 last Friday. The team has a sensational running back in Antwan Squire, who has run for 1380 yards and 12 touchdowns on 156 carries. Latrell McCants has also been an effective runner for the Rams with 501 yards and seven touchdowns on 55 carries. Quarterback Marquice Perry has averaged just under 128 yards a game, while Robert McMillian has been a leader on the defense. He leads the team with 49 tackles, as well as eight sacks. Gregory Young has picked off four passes.
CH Flowers has gotten stellar play from quarterback Julius DuVall, who has thrown for 804 yards and 12 touchdowns. It was the Jaguars' running game and defense that led them in their most recent victory against Friendly though. Jemuel Cypress ran for 82 yards and the winning score in the fourth quarter on a mere seven carries. Mekhi Williams ran for the other touchdown as CH Flowers won 14-12. Breaun Roderique also had a productive day on the ground with 48 yards on eight attempts.

Douglass-PG (6-1) at Gwynn Park (5-1)
Our second All-Prince George's County contest this week features two teams that sit atop their MPSSAA regional standings.
Douglass bounced back from its tough loss to Suitland in Week 6 by shutting out Bladensburg 36-0. Quarterback Ja'Juan Payton has been the key cog in the Eagles' offense, throwing rushing for 409 yards and two touchdowns, while also throwing for six scores. His top target has been Jalen Grubbs, who has hauled in three touchdowns and has 175 yards. Kevin Broome has also been a key figure, rushing for 227 yards and two touchdowns. Brooklyn McNair and Makye Smith lead the defense in tackles with 70 and 61 respectively, while Richard Brathwaite has six sacks. The trio of Javon Rogers, Devin Taylor and Kristian West have three interceptions each.
Gwynn Park has won back to back contests since dropping a 14-7 decision against CH Flowers in Week 5. The Yellow Jackets put together a sensational display on offense this past week's 27-7 win against Northwestern. Quarterback Kamari Brown played at a very high level and got a lot of different receivers involved in the game. He connected with Keivon Brooks for a score in the third quarter. Kibwe Galloway picked up two rushing touchdowns, with Terrell Lindsey scoring the other.

Broadneck (7-0) at Meade (6-1)
Broadneck's high powered offense goes on the road this week to face Meade, which enters this contest with a four game win streak.
Nobody has been able to slow down Broadneck quarterback Shane Davis this season. Davis has already thrown for an astounding 1780 yards and 20 touchdowns to just six interceptions. Playing to a QBR of 169.4, Davis has also rushed for seven scores. His main target has been Ethan Williams, who has caught 44 passes, including 11 touchdowns, for 816 yards. Tyler Vermillion has caught four touchdowns, as well as 477 yards. The Bruins' potent passing attack is complimented by a dynamic ground game. Jason Carcamo has run for 783 yards and nine touchdowns, while Tyrese Watson has averaged 9.6 yards per carry, scoring five times.
With its 26-16 win over Severna Park last week, Meade equaled its win total from 2016. The Mustangs have played extremely well since losing to Old Mill in Week 3, topping North County, Annapolis, Southern and Severna Park to have the group sitting third in the 4A East playoff standings. The team has gotten great production from its running back group of Darion Straughn, Erick Johnson, Zharell Walker and Wendell Barnes.

Allegany (6-1) at Northern-G (5-1)
Allegany travels to Garrett County to face Northern in this MPSSAA 1A West tussle.
Allegany enters this contest on a five game win streak. The Campers are getting a sensational season from fullback Karson Robinette, who is on pace to break school records for rushing yards, touchdowns and sacks in a single season. On offense, Robinette has rushed for 1,322 yards and 21 touchdowns, while on defense he has 39 tackles and nine sacks. Running back Elisha Llewellyn has played well also, rushing for 641 yards and six touchdowns, while also leading the team in receiving yards with 264. Christian Welch leads the team in tackles with 47, while Jakson Bauer has chipped in 27 tackles.
Northern lost last week to Mountain Ridge last week, but that was the first blemish for the Huskies in 2017. The team's rushing attack has been balanced and superb. The group has been led by Peyton Carr, who has run for 645 yards and seven touchdowns on 79 attempts. Carsyn King has rushed for 411 yards, and scored five times. Sam Beeman and Jake Rush have also been key contributors. On defense, Bryce Jones has led the group with 72 tackles. James Spear has also registered five interceptions.

Overlea (5-2) at Eastern Tech (4-3)
Two teams thick in separate postseason races square off in this Baltimore County clash that is expected to a tight affair.
Overlea has won back to back games since losing to Chesapeake-BC 18-8, which has put the Falcons at fourth in the MPSSAA 1A North regional standings. Last week Overlea defeated Hereford in overtime 26-20. The Falcons have continued to get great play from their guys in the trenches- defensive lineman Keivon Bowman and guard Shaquin Meredith have built off fantastic 2016 campaigns to excel even more this season. Quarterback Jalen McMillan, running back Jemar Cannon and punt returner/wide receiver Jairus Cannon have made plays for the offense, while defensive tackles Tyrie Friescon and Kiaron Battle, who also plays center, have stood out on defense.
Eastern Tech's four game win streak was halted in a 22-18 decision against Chesapeake-BC. The Mavericks now sit in fifth just behind Hereford, despite beating the Bulls two weeks ago. The loss to Chesapeake-BC happened despite an excellent effort from running back Immanual Massally, who finished with 103 yards rushing. Connor Bowings was also a key performer with 60 yards rushing and three touchdowns. That duo also did well against Hereford- Massally finished with 125 yards rushing a touchdown, while Bowings had two scores and 111 yards.
