Week 5 Football Roundup Part 2

Howard 29 - Oakland Mills 22
In a battle of Howard County heavyweights, Howard was able to do just enough to come away with the victory, winning 29-22. Entering last night's game the teams were 27-1 in Howard County play dating back to 2014, establishing that they have been Howard County's premier teams over that period.
Howard was led by running back Malik Anderson's monstrous game. Anderson finished with 183 yards and two touchdowns on 30 carries. What makes Anderson's performance that much more impressive is how well he played in the fourth quarter, running for 102 yards and getting both of his touchdowns in the final quarter.
The Lions got a strong performance from quarterback Casey Crawford, who was able to be effective despite the difficult weather conditions. Crawford threw for two touchdowns in the first half. The first was a 10 yard completion to Dylan Perez, while the second was a 26 yard strike to Cameron Carlyle. Crawford finished the day completing seven of his 20 attempted passes for 147 yards.
The win keeps Howard undefeated in 2015, joining Paint Branch, Sherwood and Mervo as the undefeated teams in the 4A North region. Bel Air, also in the 4A North, suffered their first loss of the season last night against Douglass-BC.
Howard will try to stay undefeated next week when they face Centennial. Oakland Mills will look to avoid a losing streak when they play Marriotts Ridge next Friday. Marriotts Ridge was undefeated going into yesterday, but lost a 12-6 decision against River Hill.
Perry Hall 32 - Catonsville 27
Trailing 27-26 with 3:45 remaining in the game on the road, in awful weather conditions, against a fierce rival, and needing to go 75 yards to get to the end zone, it would not have been shocking if Perry Hall's quarterback Reece Wiseman was unable to lead his team down the field. Wiseman though, as he had throughout the entire game, came through for the Gators, orchestrating a drive which was capped off with a 29 yard touchdown run by the QB. That score was the last one of the game, leading Perry Hall to a 32-27 win over Catonsville.
Wiseman finished the day going 16 for 25 throwing the ball for 245 yards. In addition to his rushing touchdown, he also threw for two scores, both of which were to Sebastian Lucas. Lucas led all Gator receivers in yardage with 141 yards. He made seven grabs. Brennon Dingle also had a big night catching the ball, making six catches for 80 yards. Dingle also had a good game rushing the ball, finishing with 105 yards on 10 carries.
James Rider had one of the big plays of the game when he blocked a Catonsville punt which was returned to the two yard line. That play led to a rushing touchdown for Ashawntie Brown. Tyreek Davidsion closed the door on Catonsville's comeback attempt with a sack on the final play of the game.
This was a big contest for both teams as both entered the game at 3-1. Both teams reside in the 4A North region for the state playoffs, which is one of the more competitive divisions in the state. Coming into Week 5, that region had five teams who were 4-0, and remember that only four teams qualify for the playoffs. With only five games left to play, that region's playoff race will definitely be one to keep an eye on.
Clarksburg 20 - Wootton 12
Clarksburg (pictured above, courtesy of Ed Sheahin of Sports Spotlight Photography) pulled away late to beat Wootton last night, winning by the final score of 20-12. Heading into the fourth quarter, the score stood at 13-12, but Javon Gordon had a five yard run to create some breathing space between the two teams, and ensure that the Coyotes would become 3-2 in 2015.
Stanley Perry rushed for 95 yards on 15 attempts. He also scored on a five yard run in the second quarter to get Clarksburg on the board for the first time in the game, erasing Wootton's 6-0 advantage. Wootton had scored on a one yard run by Patrick Bernardo.
The Coyotes made the score 13-6 before halftime when quarterback Hunter Reimers completed a nine yard touchdown pass to Justin Parrales.
Wootton would not go away though, scoring a rushing touchdown via Kingsley Ofori in the third quarter. That was the final time Wootton would score though, with Gordon's run being the only scoring play for the rest of the game.
Reimers completed three of nine passes for 79 yards. The Coyotes' leading receiver was Ian Krishnan, who caught one pass for 61 yards. Chris Forman rushed for 30 yards on six attempts.
Clarksburg will look to win back to back games for the first time in 2015 next Friday night when they host Urbana from Frederick County.
