Patapsco Football Hoping to Build Off Best Ever Season
Patapsco's football team surprised a lot of people last year, finishing 9-1 and just missing qualification for the MPSSAA playoffs. Riding a defense that only allowed seven points per game and recorded three shutouts, the Patriots had the best record in school history in 2014.
"Obviously we expect our defense to be a big strength once again this year," said head coach Thomas Raybon. "We also feel that the experience of the guys will be a big strength- they've been through a lot together over the past couple of years. That will help us in the long run."
The Patriots will need all the experience they have for this upcoming season. Patapsco has a tough schedule. They are slated to play Franklin, Catonsville and Milford Mill, all talented teams they didn't play last year. They also have a big game with Dundalk, the one team who beat them last year. The new schedule hasn't changed Raybon's expectations for the season though.
"We always have certain goals set out for the season," said Raybon. "We want to win the home opener, win homecoming, win more games than last year, and play in the eleventh week of the season."
Furthermore, Patapsco has a big chip on their shoulder. Missing out on the playoffs due to tiebreakers last season, the Patriots still feel as if they have a lot of doubters who they would like to prove wrong.
"All I will say is expect the unexpected. We think we could have gone 10-0 last year and people still would not have given us respect," said Raybon. "That's how we feel going into this season. It will be fun to play this difficult, new schedule and show people just how far Patapsco football has come."
