Poolesville 24 - Winters Mill 13
In front of a packed house, Poolesville (pictured above) delivered a complete performance in their 2015 home opener, beating Winters Mill 24-13. The win gave first year head coach Dave Murray a win on Poolesville's home field in his first try.
John Hetrick led the Falcons on offense with 209 yards rushing on 29 carries. He also provided the big play of the game when he ran for a 75 yard touchdown. Quarterback Daniel Cho completed seven passes on 15 attempts and had two touchdowns. Jake Armstrong was Cho's main target, hauling in three catches, including both of Cho's touchdowns. He finished with 73 yards receiving.
On defense, Poolesville was able to create a couple turnovers. Jon Garagiola and Colin Fisher both had interceptions while Dakota Grimsby had a monstrous 10 tackles, including a sack.
The Falcons also got a great performance from their special teams unit. Alex Hsu was perfect on extra points, making all three of his kicks. Hsu also helped extend Poolesville's lead with a 28 yard field goal.
Poolesville is now 2-1. They lost their season opener to Seneca Valley before beating Wheaton last week. The Falcons face a tough challenge next Friday when they host Montgomery County powerhouse Damascus.
Patterson 42 - Digital Harbor 6
Patterson (pictured above) remained undefeated in 2015 by defeating Digital Harbor 42-6. The team's defense was the difference today, recording five interceptions and three sacks. Dana Reaves led the defense with two interceptions and two tackles. Damien Gaither also had a strong game for Patterson, coming up with four tackles and one sack.
On offense, Patterson's running back Raekwon Wright had five carries for 59 yards and two touchdowns. Dominic Watson finished with 37 yards on six carries, and also had a touchdown. Quarterback Kennard Pugh also had a solid game, completing seven passes for 58 yards.
The Clippers are now 3-0. Patterson topped Baltimore City College in Week 1 26-6, and then beat FAET 16-12. Next week Patterson goes on the road to face another talented Baltimore City team, Dunbar.
Arundel 48 - Chesapeake-AA 8
Arundel topped Chesapeake-AA in a battle of Anne Arundel County teams who were 2-0 entering this week. The Wildcats entered halftime up 28-0 and didn't let up in the second half, beating Chesapeake-AA 48-8.
Arundel used an effective balanced approach on offense. Quarterback Donte Thompson was sensational, completing 21 of 28 attempted passes and finishing with 335 yards through the air. He also threw three touchdowns, including two in Arundel's big first half. Thompson was also effective on the ground, running seven times for 24 yards.
Christian Thornton and Octavius Taylor were Thompson's two main targets. Thornton finished with five catches and 93 yards receiving, while Octavius Taylor had seven catches and 84 yards receiving. Both caught touchdowns as well.
Larry Barnes led the Wildcats' ground attack. He finished with three touchdowns, scoring on runs of 7 yards, 28 yards, and 48 yards. Barnes ran for 108 yards on 13 attempts, which is good for 8.3 yards per carry. Darius Hunter also made an impact, scoring a 25 yard touchdown on his only run of the night.
Arundel will travel to Old Mill next Friday night in a showdown of unbeaten Anne Arundel County teams.
Linganore 29 - Middletown 7
Linganore used a big third quarter to pull away from Middletown in a battle of Frederick County teams on Friday night, stretching a 3-0 halftime lead to a 22-0 lead entering the fourth quarter. Linganore ended up winning the game 29-7.
The Lancers' running back Dante Butler was crucial in that big third quarter. He scored twice, getting into the end zone on runs of 5 yards and 58 yards. Butler added a third touchdown in the fourth quarter to further extend Linganore's lead. He finished with 159 yards on 24 attempts.
Linganore quarterback Nathaniel Musselman also had a big day, finishing with 147 yards and a touchdown on 14 completions. Musselman's favorite target was Jake Staub, who caught 10 passes, including a touchdown, for 111 yards.
On defense, Linganore was led by Matthew Albano who had 8.5 tackles, including 8 solos. Derek Benjamin had 5.5 tackles, Michael McDonald had 4.5 and Ben Iwanski had 4, including 1.5 for a loss.
Linganore is now 3-0, having beaten Tuscarora and Indian River in their first two games. The Lancers will travel to Washington County next Friday to face South Hagerstown.
